The interstitial lung diseases (ILDs) are a large and heterogeneous group of disease entities that differ significantly with respect to presentation, cause, prevention, therapy, and prognosis. Many of them have no clear etiology. However, over the past 10 years, considerable progress has been made in our understanding of these entities. In this issue of Clinics in Chest Medicine, we discuss the most important of the ILDs and update the reader about their management.
